Madeira 2008. Who’s going?

Right folks, to continue from where we left off in 2007….

Madeira Island has started to fire up with a number of reports of hook ups and fish in the spread. Last Friday came the first positive contact of the season when a fish of an unreported weight chomped the lures on one of Madeiras Finnest charter boats, the Balancal. The fish was hooked up by a group on a half day charter, and by all accounts made a good show for about 20 minutes, before throwing the hooks.

Mid to late May is about on the money for the first fish to show on the grounds, and this year is no different. As the month ends and we move into June, many of the islands charter skippers will have there first serious clients lined up. The start of June is also the time when many of the visiting boats start to arrive.

If anyone is fishing this year in Madeira, then maybe you would care to make yourself known on the board here. Quite a few of us last year were able to make contact with each other before arriving on the island, and it would be nice to do the same again this year.

I will be arriving on the island on the 8th July, and spending a week on the deck with Capt. Pete Bristow, trying not to get in the way. I will then be fishing for a few days on the Balancal from the 15th. I will be staying in the Penha Franca as per usual.
