« Report from Fuerteventura - October 2007 | Home | fishing in france »
as my partner and I had a few hours spare today we decided to pop down to Deal pier for a few hours fishing.
We arrived just after 10:00 and bought a score of lug from the shop by the pier entrance to go with the squid and mackerel that we brought with us.
My partner wanted to fish the lower deck on the corner facing Ramsgate but this is still closed from the damage caused by the high tides and strong winds a few weeks ago.
We settled on the stem between the 3rd and 4th shelters on the south facing side.
We had quite a few missed bites at first but these soon dropped off to nothing after an hour.
We tried different combinations of baits and rigs but all that we managed to catch was a weight with some line attached.
After several cups of tea and bacon rolls from the cafe we decided that it was time to pack up and go and pick the kids up from school.
Corrie, my partner, spent some of the time just taking pictures of the little birds (terns I think) that were running up and down quite close to us for most of the morning.
While walking back along the pier we spoke to one guy who said he had caught a nice dab. When he actually showed it to us I could see it was actually a sole of about a pound.
Somebody said that another one had been caught on the lower deck but I didn’t see that one.
I didn’t see anything else caught while we were there even though there must have been 40 or so rods out. Not even a whiting………
Well that was it.. No fish but a nice day trying to catch one.
Malcolm.
